In our first ride in the Porsche Taycan electric sedan, we could tell it was the new benchmark for EV handling, unseating the Tesla Model S. Now, it looks like Porsche’s all-electric four-door will give the Tesla a run for its money in the interior department as well. Porsche has released the first images of the Taycan’s uncamouflaged cabin, and so far we like what we see.

The interior design blends modern and classic Porsche themes, with a dashboard that channels the 1963 Porsche 911. A raked center console divides driver and passenger, and houses a slick-looking 8.4-inch haptic touchscreen for audio, navigation, and climate controls. But the highlight of the cockpit is the pair of 10.9-inch infotainment screens in the center stack and dashboard. The central screen comes standard, and the passenger-side screen is optional. Meanwhile, a free-standing 16.8-inch curved screen serves as the instrument cluster, which can be set to one of four [...]

When you attend a Porsche gathering, you don’t hear the numbers “911” bandied about. You hear which series or era of 911 is residing in front of you, be it a 930, 964, 993, 996, Ducktail RS, GT3, Club Sport, or what have you.

And at this year’s Werks Reunion during Monterey Car week, there were plenty of each of to be seen, as well as a trove of 356s, a swath of 928s, a scattering of 914s, and even a lowly 924 or 968.

According to the Porsche Club of America, “This is not a contest of who has removed dust from the deepest crevices in their Porsche, but rather a judged show that rewards a Porsche that has been lovingly maintained and presents itself well on the field.”

Werks may not be as curated a Porsche gathering as Rennsport or Luftgekuhlt, but it is definitely well [...]

You’ve probably played a game of HORSE or two in your day, but never like this. Toyota has swapped the basketball for something far more powerful: the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. Rather, two of them, one red and one black, piloted by world-renowned Formula Drift drivers Ken Gushi and Fredric Aasbø. The skilled sliders met up for a friendly game of HORSEpower, each completing tricky moves to measure the car’s—and their own—speed, precision, and balance. Ryan Tuerck, fellow pro driver and host of Drift This, was on hand to preside over the competition on the skidpad at Willow Springs International Raceway.

Team Toyota thought up some clever stunts to push the cars and their drivers to their limits. First up, Gushi and Aasbø raced to set off a smoke alarm by positioning their cars perfectly upwind and holding a steady burnout. After that, they were told to turn [...]

A highlight of the week leading up to Saturday’s Woodward Dream Cruise 2019 is the exclusive car show at General Motors’ Warren tech center. Exclusive because it is for GM’s design team only.

Not surprisingly, the majority are GM brands, but MotorTrend loves heading to the tech center to see what employees have brought to work to show their colleagues before forming a parade, complete with police escort, to a park along Woodward. Here, the public can admire the cars as part of a larger Dream Cruise show.

We expected a lot of Corvettes and were not disappointed. There were not one but two 1963 Sting Rays (in the days when it was two words like the race car that inspired it). The Sting Rays have the gorgeous hood and spine that runs down the roof to the split rear window. Only the ’63, the first year of C2, has the split window.

1963 Corvette [...]

Lifting a vehicle has become second nature for the Mopar team at FCA. But one of the automaker’s newest rolling test beds takes things in a different direction. The 2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn Low Down concept actually lowers the full-size pickup by two inches.

Mopar created the concept for the 2018 SEMA show, and FCA has been gauging reaction for about a year. A decision will be made later this year or into next year on whether to add the prototype lowering kit to the Mopar catalogue.

So far, reaction has been positive. Cheryl Woodworth, brand accessories manager, said one woman, cruising Woodward Avenue in a 1500, spotted the Low Down and excitedly called her husband to say she saw it and wants one.

Woodworth does not know where the lowering kit might fall on FCA’s priority list, but for now, the concept will keep rolling and [...]
