Tanks are rolling through Washington, D.C. in honor of Independence Day. As part of President Trump’s “Salute to America” parade, multiple military vehicles like the Humvee, M2 Bradley armored fighting vehicle, and M1 Abrams main battle tank will be featured, plus flyovers from the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps. In honor of this week’s festivities, we’re resurfacing our First Drive of the M1 Abrams from back in 1982, when the tank first went into service. Happy fourth!

The clock says it is past time for sunrise, but the night gloom hangs in front of me with the persistence of a drawn blind. An extension of insomnia, I suppose; a product of late arrival and a restless night in a strange bed.

I’ve been awake for hours. I’ve showered and dressed, becoming more anxious by the moment. But now I sit dreamily in a rented sedan at the mouth of the motel driveway, [...]

To suggest the big, fast, gorgeous Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante is a formulaic car would be to flirt with heresy. But there’s an element of truth to the idea. After all, it is the sixth Aston Martin built on the hardware that made its debut with the DB11 in 2016. A more correct view, however, would be to suggest the Superleggera Volante is the ultimate expression of that lodestar Aston’s DNA: more power, more speed, more grip, more style, more … everything.

The DBS Superleggera Volante is, of course, the convertible version of the DBS Superleggera coupe Jonny Lieberman gushed over in 2018. It shares the coupe’s mechanicals, including the weapons-grade twin-turbo V-12, eight-speed automatic transmission, multilink suspension, carbon-fiber prop shaft, and massive carbon-ceramic brakes. Removing the roof has added 220 pounds to the overall weight, mostly at the rear of the car—the result of additional bracing and the hardware needed for the power-folding [...]

Thanks in part to the Fast and Furious franchise, demand for the fourth-generation A80 Toyota Supra has been strong for decades. But the launch of the 2020 Toyota Supra has sent demand (and value) skyrocketing. Fancy one for yourself? Well, you’re in luck because this extra-clean example is about to cross the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast sale.

This particular Toyota Supra is an Anniversary Edition produced only for the 1997 model year. What makes it more special is that it has a Targa roof, and is one of only 376 examples in that configuration produced in black. To add to its desirability, this A80 Supra is powered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbo 2JZ I-6 backed by a six-speed manual. In the U.S., where Japanese automakers didn’t have a gentleman’s agreement limiting output to 276 hp, the Supra Turbo made a healthy 320 hp and 315 lb-ft of [...]

Last Thursday at the MotorTrend office in El Segundo, Super Street hosted a magazine release event to celebrate its first-ever Mazda-specific issue. The event invited MotorTrend On Demand subscribers, local Mazda owners, and automotive social media influencers to come check out some of the modified cars featured in Super Street, which includes Mazda Motorsports’ iconic 767B race car. The 767B was first raced in Fuji, Japan, in 1988 and then competed at the 24 Hour of Le Mans in 1989 where it finished ninth overall. The 630-hp race car was the precursor to Mazda’s 787 which eventually won Le Mans. It was a treat to showcase such an iconic and legendary vehicle inside the MotorTrend studio for Super Street’s event. Significant influencers in attendance included Hert Eugene of Hoonigan, drifter Collette Davis, car builder Bisi Ezerioha, photographer Larry Chen, and artist Jon Sibal.

“It’s insane the amount of development, sign-off, and investment Ford does just for a set of springs and dampers,” Vaughn enthused. “So, you know, we’d be foolish not to take advantage of that knowledge and development. I think it’s a really cool collaboration.”

While RTR Vehicles still offers its Spec 1, 2, and 3 packages, which offer more styling and performance upgrades, the Series 1 carries that aforementioned Ford backing, while still delivering the kind of performance that puts smiles on faces.
