Forget car keys. Hyundai is rolling out technology that will allow drivers to unlock and start their vehicle using only their fingerprint.
The feature will debut on the new Hyundai Santa Fe that’s coming to China in the first quarter of 2019. We’ve reached out to Hyundai to find out whether we can expect the feature on our recently redesigned Santa Fe here in the U.S.
To unlock the Santa Fe, drivers place a finger on the sensor located on the door handle. A controller inside the vehicle recognizes the encrypted information. To start the ignition, drivers will have to scan their fingerprint once again, this time on the ignition button. Once the car has your fingerprints, it will automatically adjust the seats, side mirrors, and connected car features to your preferences.
“In the future, Hyundai Motor plans to further expand the application of the technology to allow [...]
By its very definition, no one wins when you compromise. This is especially true if you’re a discerning car enthusiast looking for a one-size-fits-all approach to your family car. More often than not, the cars that are most practical aren’t particularly fun to drive, but sportier options are neither roomy nor efficient. That equation gets even more complicated once you bring efficiency, fuel costs, and climate change–causing emissions into the equation. Thankfully, it seems some problems are easily solved by throwing money at them—the 2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is the ultimate be-all, end-all family car for the evolved (and let’s get this out of the way early—wealthy) car enthusiast.
You’re not going to be able to sell your significant other on a family car if it isn’t practical. Riding on the Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform, the Panamera Sport Turismo shares everything forward of (and beneath) [...]
With nearly 144,000 units sold through November, the Pilot is Honda’s second best-selling crossover behind the CR-V and even tops the Odyssey minivan by roughly 48,000 units. The multi-passenger sport ute continues to be popular three years after this generation was introduced, but with three-row competitors like the Volkswagen Atlas, Subaru Ascent, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and soon a new Toyota Highlander arriving to challenge the Pilot for those sales, Honda gave the refreshed 2019 Pilot a number of meaningful updates to keep it competitive.
I had the opportunity to drive the updated Pilot in two distinctly different areas: in my hometown of Los Angeles and on the streets of Atlanta, Georgia. You see, back in October I flew with my family to Atlanta for my sister-in-law’s wedding. Like us, many of the guests were from out of town and needed rides to and from the venue. Honda [...]
In the same way I mourned the departure of my long-term 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport when my year with it ended, I also mourn the loss of the 2017 Mazda CX-9 that I had the pleasure of driving and living with for the past year. But like the saying goes, on to bigger and … well, on to bigger things.
Released in 2017 as a 2018 model, the Volkswagen Atlas sits atop the Volkswagen SUV lineup as its most expansive offering. We invited the Atlas to our 2018 SUVOTY competition, where it made a big impression and earned a spot as a finalist. “It’s huge, like really, really, really big,” editor-in-chief Ed Loh said. “The room inside is ridiculous.” Unfortunately, not all of the comments were positive, with judges knocking the Beetle’s big brother [...]
The new Honda Passport and Chevrolet Blazer head to dealerships in early 2019 to challenge established players from Ford and Nissan. Although they’ve been in the game for a while, the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano are far from old, as both have been refreshed for 2019. The question is: Which midsize crossover has the most compelling design?
Some criticize the 2019 Honda Passport for looking too similar to the larger Pilot. But there are key design differences, and the most prominent are up front. The Passport features a black grille and bumper for a rugged look. The Blazer’s front end is equally bold, borrowing cues from the Camaro. It features slim, Camaro-like headlights that flow into a gaping grille. Take a look at the front end of the Edge, and it looks pretty conventional with an average-sized grille separated from the simple headlights. ST models feature a bolder look with a unique black mesh [...]
