Good news for heavy duty Bow-Tie fans—the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis-cab trucks are rolling off the line and on their way to dealerships now. These Silverado trucks were unveiled in March at the 2018 NTEA Work Truck Show, well ahead of the debut of their 2500 and 3500 little brothers that are, uh, aesthetically challenged up front. (To be fair, the High Country is slightly better-looking.)

“When we decided to get back into the medium-duty segment, we were determined to build the truck our customers have been asking for,” said GM fleet VP Ed Peper in a statement. “We listened to the needs of fleet managers, truck drivers, technicians, and dealers to design a truck that’s easy to upfit, easy to drive, easy to service, and easy to own.” We’re just glad those things didn’t get any harder to do, although we’re thinking Chevy wouldn’t say so if they did.

Old convertibles are almost always cool, but this freshly restored 1967 BMW 1600 GT convertible is a rare bird with a unique history. The silver four-seater with a red interior and matching top was painstakingly refreshed over several years by apprentices and their trainers at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany, and it’s the only surviving example of two original prototypes commissioned by BMW from the Italian bodywork designer Pietro Frua.

The same year the two-door cars came to fruition, BMW took over the vehicle manufacturer Glas, a company known at the time for its 1300 GT and 1700 GT models with bodies styled by Frua. Frua delivered a similar convertible body to the Dingolfing factory in October of 1967 and it was completed a month later. The BMW crew painted it silver, fitted it with a rear axle, new seats, and dropped in a 105-hp engine from [...]

GMC has found another way to distinguish itself from Chevrolet. It has added an Off-Road Performance Package to the list of available equipment on the Sierra AT4. The upgrade brings along a cat-back exhaust, a performance air intake, and upgraded 6.2-liter engine.

When equipped with the new package, the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 gets a 10-speed automatic transmission and 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 435 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque. That’s up 15 hp and 9 lb-ft of torque from the regular 6.2-liter V-8 available as an option on the Sierra AT4. We tested a Sierra AT4 with this engine, and it was able to hit 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.

In addition to a beefier engine, the package includes 18-inch machined aluminum wheels wrapped with Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. Like all Sierra AT4 models, the model comes standard with a two-inch factory suspension lift, two-speed transfer case, a locking rear differential, skid [...]

I ease the muscular, low-slung four-door onto the street and into the Friday morning traffic. The acceleration is swift and mostly silent. A distant high-pitched whine increases in pitch as speed rises, accompanied by the percussive patter-crash of low-profile 22-inch tires at war with a stiffly sprung, hastily calibrated suspension. Most concept car drives take place in the smooth safety of a secluded proving ground or a closed racetrack. But I’m driving the hand-finished Audi E-Tron GT concept on the cratered streets of downtown L.A. There’s confidence for you.

Audi’s confident because this “concept” is no hand-built dream machine, designed to do its best work sitting under lights on an auto show stand. It’s basically an early prototype of the production Audi E-Tron GT. Swap the 22-inch wheels and tires for 21s, add door handles and bigger rearview mirrors, take away the glowing e-tron logos front and rear, [...]

Rear-drive Italian sport sedan from a legendary company for the price of a loaded minivan? What on earth would you change? Well, a few things, actually.

No car is perfect, not even a MotorTrend Car of the Year. There’s always something that could use updating or a compromise made for practical or budgetary reasons during a car’s development that isn’t a big deal but still noticeable. As much fun as the Alfa is to drive, as many looks as it gets in parking lots, there are still wrongs to be righted.

The most consistently frustrating is the glare on the infotainment screen. I love the way the screen has been incorporated into the dash design with no obvious frame, but it has some sort of matte finish on it that reflects absolutely everything. The use of dark red text over a black background is hard enough to read, [...]
