Elon Musk has been toying with the idea of a Tesla pickup truck for years and has even amped up the prospect recently asking his Twitter followers for feature ideas. Per his most recent “Master Plan,” though, it’ll come after the Model Y crossover, which is still at least two years away. That’s a problem for Tesla, because the 2020 Rivian R1T electric pickup is also two years away.
Automakers large and small have toyed with hybrid and full-electric pickups over the years, and several are slated for the near future. Ohio-based Workhorse is the only other one planning to build a dedicated EV truck from the ground up rather than convert an existing model, and it’ll be first to market early next year if all goes to plan. Although Workhorse’s range-extended W-15 will be sold to the public, it was expressly designed for commercial fleets and is a no-frills affair. Rivian’s R1T, on the [...]
Just a couple hundred miles after hitting 5,000 in the odometer, the A-1 light on our long-term 2018 CR-V LX illuminated. My busy schedule at the time didn’t allow me to go to the dealer right away, so after hitting 5,500 miles Motor Trend’s intern and test analytics expert JC Anne Hancock took our CR-V to its first dealer visit.
The A-1 service required an oil change, new filter, and tire rotation. As with every service, there was a multi-point inspection that covers the tire and brake condition, an interior and exterior check, a battery test, and a look under the hood and under the vehicle. Even though the CR-V had a green checkmark on every category of the multi-point inspection, the service cost was a hefty $94.22. The entire service was completed in just over two hours.
The Range Rover Evoque has stood the test of time. It has gone eight years without a full redesign, and it’s still a great-looking SUV. So much so, that Land Rover decided it wouldn’t look half bad if it choped off the roof and made it into a convertible. Now, Range Rover has finally introduced a second-generation Evoque, but is it as striking as its predecessor? Let’s check out some of the biggest design updates.
Land Rover managed to change just about everything on the front fascia, while keeping the SUV recognizable as an Evoque. There are slimmer headlights with a new graphic signature, as well as an updated grille shape. Side vents on the front fascia are slimmer, and the lower vent has also been updated to curve downward. R-Dynamic models add burnished copper accents.
From the side profile, you’ll [...]
It’s remarkable how fresh the Range Rover Evoque seems after eight years without a full redesign. The sculpted crossover, which won our 2012 SUV of the Year award, continues to hold a place in our hearts for its sporty handling and off-road capability. Not to mention periodic updates that have spruced up the interior. Now entering its second generation, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque benefits from a new platform and available mild-hybrid powertrain.
The small crossover keeps the same basic look, with the controversially sloped roofline and high beltline. But many key details have changed, including the grille, lower vents, and slim LED headlights. A new black accent runs along the bottom of the vehicle. The Evoque also gains flush door handles and a completely new rear end, including longer taillights.
More important is that the Evoque rides on the new Premium Transverse Architecture. This platform allows for [...]
The McLaren 720S is one of the quickest cars we’ve ever tested to 60 mph, hitting the mark in 2.5 seconds to tie with the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Those who are looking for a new super quick drop-top are in luck, because McLaren is likely cooking up a 720S Spider.
McLaren is being coy about the identity of the new model in this recent social media teaser, but we’re pretty confident it’s the 720S Spider. In a separate press release, McLaren hints at a new convertible, saying “a new McLaren supercar is set to raise the roof next month.”
In order to defy convention, you’ve got to look beyond it.

If it’s indeed the McLaren 720S Spider, expect it to use the same engine as the coupe variant. That means a 4.0-liter twin-turbo [...]
