The Mercedes-AMG GT R is currently the most extreme variant of Affalterbach’s front-engine sports car, but an even more hardcore version was recently confirmed to be in the works. Just like the previous SLS Black Series, the AMG GT Black Series isn’t expected to arrive until closer to the end of the GT’s life cycle. But based on these spy shots, development is already well underway.
Our shooter spotted two GT test mules running laps on Germany’s Nurburgring, and if the lead car’s glowing brakes are any indication, they were pretty hard laps. Both cars feature dive planes on the front valance and a more substantial front splitter. The wheels and brakes appear similar to those of the GT R, as does the rear wing. The exhaust, however, is different, with quad exhaust tips pushed out to the corners of the rear bumper. The camouflaged car also has extra pieces tacked on to its front [...]
BMW is conducting final tests on the M8 coupe before it heads to series production. The automaker has revealed that the car will pack more than 600 hp from its twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.
The potent flagship is now undergoing testing at the Estoril grand prix racing circuit in Portugal. Being an M model, of course, the sport coupe will benefit from special suspension tuning. It will also have an M-tuned rear-biased all-wheel-drive system with a full rear-wheel-drive mode. The standard 8 Series is already plenty powerful, packing a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 good for 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. But now that we know the M8 will make more than 600 hp, it’s possible the M variant could borrow the twin-turbo 4.4-liter from the M5 Competition, which makes 617 hp.
The BMW M8 will launch globally next year. BMW has already detailed the standard 8 Series coupe and convertible. The coupe goes on sale [...]
Acura boasts that the ILX has a high percentage of Millennial buyers compared to rivals in the segment. If that’s true, then it’s a good thing Acura refreshed the ILX with a more youthful look for 2019. Sporty cues help the small sedan keep pace with winsome entries from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. But is updating the car with the new corporate face enough to keep Acura in the small premium sedan game? Let’s take a look at how the ILX’s design has changed from the previous version.
The first thing you’ll notice is the new pentagon grille. The bigger, more angular grille is complemented by bold lower vents. The new model features long and narrow headlights, which are not connected to the grille like they were before. The headlight clusters now feature seven LED blocks rather than five. A more sculpted hood adds to the car’s athletic appearance.
Ford may not sell the Falcon in Australia anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s ready to quit touring car racing. Instead, it plans to compete in Australia’s Supercars Championship with something a little different—a Mustang.
Today, DJR Team Penske revealed a camouflaged version of its upcoming Mustang-based race car and confirmed that it will replace the Falcon for the 2019 season. That will make it the first coupe to compete in Australian touring car racing for more than 20 years. According to DJR Team Penske, the car was developed as a collaboration between Ford Performance, Ford Australia, and the Ford Asia-Pacific Design Studio. Australia’s Motoring says the Mustang shown here is based on Penske’s old Falcon race car, however, and will be used as a backup car next season.
“First of all, the car looks awesome. It’s going to be so [...]
The next-gen Porsche 911 is just around the corner, which means the many inevitable variants of the rear-engine sports car can’t be too far behind. Spy photographers have caught several of these variants already, and the latest to find itself in the crosshairs of the spy lens is the next-gen GT3.
Just like the standard 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera, the 992 version of the GT3 won’t stray far from the 911’s iconic shape, gaining subtle design changes like a full-width taillight and a revised front bumper. Despite looking very similar to the outgoing car, the 992 is said to have an all-new chassis, body, and interior. In these spy shots, we can also see Porsche is testing a new rear wing for the next GT3. The stanchions are disguised and the end plates don’t appear production-ready, so expect the wing to look different when the GT3 finally debuts. This prototype was spotted on the Nurburgring, [...]
