After the dust settled from touring with Alice in Chains to promote its hit first album, Facelift, a grungy-looking Jerry Cantrell was excited to buy his first car. But with checkbook in hand, his enthusiasm was squashed in a real-life Pretty Woman moment with an uninterested salesman. But Cantrell played out the movie scene in the way only a rocker could.
“I remember having cash in the bank to write a check, not put it on a plan, but actually to buy it, and that’s what I wanted to do. … That was a sense of pride that I had earned the [...]
Tesla has been busy meeting production targets for the Model 3 and dealing with fallout from CEO Elon Musk’s tweets, so we haven’t heard much recently about the next-gen Roadster that’s due in 2020. That is, until today. At the inaugural Grand Basel car show in Switzerland, Tesla brought out a white Roadster to celebrate the sports car’s European debut.
Tesla tells us the car on display at the show is still a prototype, so we’re no closer to learning more about a potential production version. When the second-gen Roadster was announced last November, Musk gave no hint as to where the car would be produced, saying only that it would arrive by 2020. But we did get a seemingly never-ending spew of bold performance claims, ranging from the car’s 1.9-second 0-60 mph estimate to a sub-9-second quarter-mile to a 250-plus-mph top speed to a 620-mile all-electric range. There is a growing fondness for our long-term Velar—which technically isn’t Land Rover’s flagship, but which does a strong impression of one.
The 380-hp 332-lb-ft 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 mated to a sure-shifting eight-speed automatic makes short work of a couple shortcuts I make on my coastal commute, where I dogleg around some notorious PCH snarls. Turning right onto the grand prix of Manhattan Beach Boulevard from a wee residential street in a 2-plus-ton SUV could provoke the honking of horns and the raising of middle digits—except that the Velar’s prompt acceleration assuredly places you into that gap in traffic without requiring anyone behind to lift off their respective throttles. Respect.
When I went out of town for a stretch, there was a dogpile at the key box to see who would get to borrow the Landie. Blame it on the opulent leather interior, the plush air-suspension ride, and [...]
Harley-Davidson and Tuscany Motor Company rolled out a Harley-Davidson Concept Custom 2019 Ford F-150 for the motorcycle marque’s 115th Anniversary Celebration this weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Harley styling crew and Ford-authorized specialty vehicle manufacturer Tuscany Motor Company co-designed the new concept pickup, which takes its styling cues from Harley’s most popular and iconic ride—the Fat Boy.
It will be on view at the Harley-Davidson Museum and it looks like the perfect hauler for next year’s ride out to Sturgis.
“Harley-Davidson is one of the most iconic brands in the world,” said Jeff Burttschell, Tuscany Motor Co. VP, in a statement. “The new truck was designed to evoke the same sense of power and freedom as the Harley-Davidson motorcycles that inspired it.”
And that it does. The concept truck gets a matching coat of Vivid Black paint (or Leadfoot Gray), plenty of H-D bar and shield badging, custom [...]
With the Jaguar I-Pace crossover hitting dealerships this fall, BMW is hard at work on its own electric SUV, as these new spy shots show. Our spies in Germany have caught the upcoming BMW iX3 conducting tests on public roads, and based on this prototype, it doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait long to see the production version.
BMW revealed the electric iX3 concept in April, looking almost production-ready. The production version is expected to share many of the same underpinnings as the regular X3, but with a specially developed rear axle subframe and chassis accommodations for the battery pack.
The concept utilized a 70-kilowatt-hour battery that powered a 270-hp electric motor. Using the global WLTP cycle, BMW estimates a driving range of about 249 miles, but we can’t say how that will translate to the EPA scale. The automaker claims the crossover is compatible with 150-kilowatt [...]
