Back in March, BMW said it would present a small number of X5 models powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology in 2022. That plan is still on track, according to a new report from Bloomberg, and BMW CEO Oliver Zipse says hydrogen tech “could have the potential to become another pillar in the portfolio of BMW.”
Dubbed the BMW i Hydrogen Next, the midsize SUV will feature a 170-hp fuel cell system as well as the eDrive unit from the BMW iX3. Total system output is expected at 374 hp, according to early powertrain details released in March. As a hydrogen vehicle, the SUV will emit nothing but water vapor, and refueling should take around three to four minutes. Locating a convenient hydrogen fueling station, however, may remain a challenge.
Germany recently presented a plan to bolster its hydrogen industry with an investment of 7 billion euros. The country aims for 5 gigawatts of green [...]

As the gray metallic 2020 Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered ticked, cooling in the SoCal air behind me, I couldn’t help but wonder, “What is a Polestar, anyway?”
You have a right to be confused. Volvo, and its parent company Geely, have spent just enough money to make the general public reasonably aware that Polestar is the name of its new electric vehicle brand. But Polestar also has a two-decade history of developing stonking-fast variants of existing Volvo internal combustion cars in racetrack and street-legal forms. Volvo bought the Polestar racing division in 2016, then quickly made it the symbol for EV development and sales with the Polestar 1 and upcoming Polestar 2.
What’s a Polestar?
And yet, Volvo still builds Polestar variants of its internal combustion vehicles. You can walk into a Volvo dealership, plunk down about $69,000, and get a canyon-shredding V60 Polestar Engineered wagon with turbocharging, [...]
We live in a virtual world, and Lamborghini is celebrating this new reality with a very rare special edition with a name as weird as the one Elon Musk assigned to his kid on Twitter. Limited to ten customers who personalize their car virtually, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Xago Edition is easier to pronounce and features a hexagon-heavy design theme inside and out.
A fading hexagonal motif joins the fading hexagonal name (“Xago” is just, well, the middle part of the word “hexagon”) and is splashed prominently across the sides of the Aventador, for starters. Why hexagons? Lamborghini apparently took inspiration from “the hexagon cloud shapes at the North Pole on the planet Saturn and the strength of the hexagon in nature.” This “hexagonita” pattern complements a contrast color livery uniquely specified by the customer. Gloss black wheels finish off the exterior design.
If a 12,000-hp Corvette sounds a bit like overkill, then Hennessey has another delectable C8 upgrade for you. Hennessey Performance has introduced a new exhaust system that boosts output on the eighth-gen Corvette and gives the sports car an even sweeter soundtrack.
In the video below, Hennessey walks customers through the kit’s somewhat involving installation process. While the tuner recommends taking the parts to a professional auto tech for installation, expert assemblers can certainly DIY the upgrade if they have a few tools on hand. Made of 100 percent stainless steel, the exhaust upgrade adds 21 hp and 19 lb-ft of torque to the Corvette’s mid-mounted V-8 engine. Top speed is 205 mph, according to Hennessey.
The upgrade also sheds 10 pounds from the regular Corvette’s stock exhaust. Hennessey claims the upgrade is emissions-compliant in all 50 states and comes with a lifetime warranty. Delivery takes up to four weeks.
So how much does [...]
