Uncertainty may abound these days, but Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) shareholders were reassured at their annual meeting that the proposed merger with PSA Group remains on track to be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2021. PSA Group shareholders were given the same message at their annual meeting this week, as well.

After a year of planning, FCA and PSA announced their plans for a 50-50 merger on December 18, 2019. The news followed many years of efforts by FCA’s former head, Sergio Marchionne, to merge the Italian-American company with another automaker. Doing so would achieve the scale he believed was necessary to be successful in an industry reliant on the development of expensive technology to transition to a lineup of electric and autonomous vehicles.

The Nissan Sentra compact sedan is not known as a sensuous vehicle, with a reputation more geared to practical and affordable transportation. So, it’s a nice surprise to climb into a 2020 Nissan Sentra 2.0 SV and be greeted with an interior awash in warm, diamond-quilted leather. It’s a good first impression and one I wasn’t expecting, especially at this price.

The base 2020 Sentra 2.0 is $21,195, and this midrange SV trim is optioned up to $24,800. The SV package is $2,460 and upgrades the look with thin LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the standard 16s, a small moonroof over the front seats, power driver’s seat with lumbar support, leather on the shift knob, and those heated, quilted front seats.

Despite being on the market for more than four years, the Cadillac XT5 continues to be a popular model for the brand. The XT5 was actually the best-selling Cadillac last year, and the luxury brand gave it a midcycle upgrade to keep it at the top of its list. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 adds a new engine, refreshed exterior, and a revised center console, and Caddy hopes these upgrades will be enough for its SUV to fight in the fiercest segment of the luxury world. Spoiler alert: They won’t.

For the 2020 model, the XT5 is moving to Cadillac’s global “Y” trim strategy, which means three versions are available—Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. We had a chance to drive the Premium Luxury with the new 2.0-liter engine mated to a nine-speed transmission, and although its ride is solid, its $64,490 as-tested price tag had us in disbelief.

The latest version of iDrive in the 2020 BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe features a responsive 10.3-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver. That alone is responsible for making iDrive less distracting and simpler to use than before. BMW retained the knob and button controls on the center console but after spending time using it exclusively, the touchscreen remains the most intuitive way to interact with the system.
