After years and billions spent on developing a new generation of full-size pickups and SUVs, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade is the icing on the cake for General Motors. Finally unveiled, the fifth-generation Escalade is the last vehicle spawned from the T1 platform, which has birthed full-size pickups and SUVs for the Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac brands.
GM’s T1 program started with the Silverado and Sierra light-duty pickups in the summer of 2018, followed by the heavy-duty pickups a year later. Then came the SUVs. First we saw the new 2021 Suburban and Tahoe, which are headed to dealers this spring. Then we saw the ’21 GMC Yukon. Rounding out the effort is the Escalade, which goes on sale this summer.
But don’t let chronology fool you. The Escalade was front of mind from day one, says Tim Herrick, vice president of GM global product programs. Herrick has been working on trucks for his entire career: [...]
Porsche landed itself a 60-second Super Bowl commercial slot this year, its first time advertising during the game in a long, long time, and it didn’t waste the opportunity. Its spot was a cinematic car chase dubbed “The Heist,” in which a new Taycan Turbo S EV goes missing from the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, Germany—and the facility’s security staff gives chase in a gaggle of historical Porsche models, from a 917K Le Mans racing car to a 918 Spyder to even the blue 911 Carrera S from the new Bad Boys III movie.
The commercial is fun—you should watch it here, along with the rest of the Big Game’s automotive spots—but how it came together is even better. We were granted behind-the-scenes access to the 110-person, six-day production to show you how all the action was sequenced, the challenges of an automotive ballet consisting of millions of dollars’ worth of historic vehicles, and, of [...]

“Because we can” is the reason we gave for doing World’s Greatest Drag Race the first time, eight years ago. Now it’s more like, “Because we’d be crazy not to.”
We love it, you love it, and apparently so do the fine airmen of the 30th Space Wing, headquartered at Vandenberg Air Force Base; this is the third year in a row they’ve agreed to host our madness. This explains how we ended up with our 12 Best Driver’s Cars lined up and revving on the clean, grooved concrete of America’s fourth-longest runway.
Last year we doubled down on WGDR by taking five of the drag race competitors twice the distance to a half-mile [...]
Have you ever looked at a 1980s-era Toyota Camry and thought to yourself, “That looks like a great starting point for a knockoff Hummer conversion?” Well, someone actually did, and as a result we have this little Toyommer number for sale—where else—on Craigslist.
Starting with a 1987 Toyota Camry, the seller added the windshield from a 1967 Jeep, possibly mounting it in front of the stock windshield, which appears to remain in place. He also crafted a new fabric roof to match, though it is noted in the ad that the vehicle is “not watertight.” The custom bodywork, such as it is, slopes downward steeply toward the rear of the sedan and is topped by what appears to be a roof basket. The side mirrors have also been replaced by a set of large truck mirrors mounted to the doors. The whole build is finished in a weathered sand hue reminiscent of the U.S. Army’s [...]

These days, Allen is driving his first new car, his 2018 Ford F-150. Allen relates his tenacity to Ford and its famous slogan.
“Getting a record deal for me at the age of 32, after going through so much, it reminds me a lot of my truck and the Ford brand—Ford is built tough. And [...]
